Classification Numbers

Classification numbers organize information into subject areas and can be used to locate materials on related subjects. Classification systems found in Summit include: Library of Congress, Dewey Decimal, U.S. Super intendent of Documents, and the national libraries of Medicine and Agriculture.

Classification numbers in the Summit, the union catalog, may not correspond to member libraries' call numbers.

Type all or part of the classication number. Capitalization, spaces, and punctuation (except for decimals) are not always necessary.
Example:

Library of CongressHM251 (Social Psychology)
Dewey Decimal 374 (Adult education)
Nat'l Library of Medicine WM 415 (Hypnosis)
Nat'l Agricultural LibraryHN 981.C6 (Rural Development)
